William Thran


William (Bill) Thran – born July 16, 1938, joined his beloved wife in heaven on June 5, 2016, at the age of 77.

He married Carol Ladwig on March 10, 1959 in Portage, WI. They were blessed with three children. Bill worked at Gisholt’s (Giddings & Lewis) in Madison from 1962 until it’s closing in 1984. From there he worked at Rio Public Schools until his retirement in 2000.Bill & Carol lived in Otsego, WI for 39 years; in Winter, WI for 12 years; and in Waupun for 2 ½ years. Bill spent much of his time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping until his incapacitation in 2012. During his lifetime, he helped with Boy Scouts, Conservation Clubs and Snowmobile Clubs. He had a love for bowling and was in several leagues. He had a great love for Gulfport, Mississippi where he spent a few winters.Bill is survived by his two sons, James (Kathy), Laguna Vista, TX, and Gary (Peggy), Waupun; one daughter, Deborah (Bill) Arvidson, Hawkins; nine grandchildren, Craig Thran, West Bend; Jason (Stephenie) Foster and Becky (Jeff) Johnson, Portage; Kimberly (Willie Homan) Thran, Fox Lake; Joseph Foster, Round Rock, TX; Jamie (Mike Nichols) Thran, Radisson; Tyler Thran, Laguna Vista, TX; Jacob Arvidson, Hawkins; and Hunter Thran, Waupun; ten great grandchildren, Skyler, Nicholaus, Konnor, and Nathaniel Johnson; Saphire, Shiann and Cali Foster; Bailey Thran, Reiley Kavanaugh and Camden Nichols; three step-grandsons, Jason and Brady Kaufman and Shane Forsting; and two step-great grandchildren, Jadyne and Sophia Kaufman. He is also survived by three brothers, Robert (Chloe) Felmet, Paul (Kathy) Thran, Michael (Sara) Thran; one sister, Claire Thran; three sisters-in-law, Georgia (Vince) Fitzgerald, Joyce (Augie) List, Julie (Blayne) Van Camp; and one brother-in-law, Robert Ladwig; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; father, Paul Felmet; mother, Emma Thran; step-father, Claire N. Thran; brother, Paul Felmet; sisters-in-law, Vivian Felmet and Cheryl Ladwig; brothers-in-law, Allen and Niel Ladwig; and nephews, Darrell Felmet and Scott Fitzgerald.


A funeral mass will be held later this summer for Bill and Carol at St. Patrick’s in Doylestown where they will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
