Steven Schmitt

Steven John Schmitt, aged 69, of Waupun, Wisconsin, passed away on October 25, 2024. Born on October 17, 1955, Steve dedicated nearly five decades to his career as an over-the-road truck driver, hauling livestock and logistics for Hanefeld Brothers and Steve Gentz. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family. He met the love of his life in Minnesota where they lived in Cottage Grove for 20 years before retiring in Waupun, WI to be closer to their grandchildren and Steven's siblings. 

Steve was a loving husband to Tinamarie and a cherished father to Jamie Schmitt, Kyle (Bailey) Schmitt, Sarah Marie (Connor) Verstegen, and Ryan (Mardi) Olson. His joy was multiplied as a papa to Aubrey, Rexlynn, Levi, Landon, Jacob, Charlie, and Hudson, and he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his great-grandchild, Colyn.

Known for his sarcasm and great sense of humor, Steve was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan who also had a passion for cars, semis, and his beloved dogs, Ruby and Indy. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School and carried the values of hard work and dedication throughout his life.

Steve leaves behind a loving family including his sisters Linda Edmunds, Lois (David) Reil, Karen (Jack) Edmunds; brothers Frank (Patty) Schmitt, Dennis (Victoria) Schmitt; brother-in-law Jeff Hall; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Schmitt; brother John Schmitt; sister Lisa Hall; brother-in-law Rick Edmunds; and niece Crissy Hall.

A visitation will be held at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 6 p.m. Light food will be provided during the visitation and after the prayer service. Steven's life and legacy will be remembered as one of unwavering love, humor, and dedication.
