Steve Perry

Steve Perry, age 70, passed away after a courageous battle with West Nile Virus on December 20, 2024 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Steve was born on February 24, 1954, in Waupun, to Kenneth and Betty Mielke Perry. Steve graduated from Waupun High School in 1972 and continued his education in 1973, doing the AG short course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On December 5, 1975, he married Kim Loomans, and together they shared a beautiful life for 49 years. Steve grew up in the heart of rural Fox Lake, where he developed a passion for farming that would define much of his life. Steve purchased the home farm from his beloved Grandma Perry and dedicated his life to farming, specializing in raising hogs from farrow to finish and later breeding stock until 2016. Even in his later years, Steve remained steadfast in nurturing his land, pouring his heart into it. Harvest time was always his favorite season, a time of abundance that reflected the fruits of his labor and the love he had for the earth he cultivated.

His legacy extended beyond the fields as he actively participated in his community. A devoted member of First Reformed Church in Waupun, Steve served multiple terms as a deacon and elder, demonstrating a deep commitment to his faith and congregation. He also served on the Board of Education for Central Wisconsin Christian School, where his influence helped shape the educational experiences of many. Among his many contributions, he was instrumental in the development of Bargains Galore Thrift Store which highlighted his dedication to serving others.

His professional endeavors included leading the search for the Head of School for Central Wisconsin Christian School, and he proudly followed in his father's footsteps as chairman of the board of Ergo Bank, formerly Farmers State Bank. His knowledge and passion for agricultural finance left a significant mark on the community.

Steve was a man who cherished moments spent with his loved ones. He found immense joy in hunting with his children and grandchildren, making memories that would be treasured for generations. The family’s gatherings at Tuttle Lake became a beloved tradition, where laughter and love filled the air, creating a warm blanket of connection.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Kim; and their three children: Beth (Jon) Ritzema, Mike (Carrie) Perry, and Dan (Mandy) Perry. He leaves behind a vibrant legacy of love through his 11 grandchildren: Joey (Fiancé Ava), Braydon, and Jacob Ritzema, Kaelie, Ellie, Brenna, Coy, and Jace Perry, Ryden, Oliver, and Finn Perry. He will also be missed by his sister, Janet Flagel; brother, Tim (Amy) Perry; mother-in-law, Pat Loomans; sister-in-law, Peggy (Paul) Westerveld; brother-in-law, Jeff (Annie) Loomans; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kind spirit.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Howard Loomans.

As we remember Steve Perry, we celebrate a life well-lived, one filled with faith, nurturing, love, and service. His legacy will continue to inspire us all to cherish the connections we share with one another and to honor the beauty of the land he so deeply cared for.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Waupun. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
