Steve Kurtz, age 69, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024.
Steve was born on April 8, 1955, the son of Harold and Carol Marx Kurtz. Steve attended West Bend School. He was a proud veteran who joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Independence for two years. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a welder at Leach Company in Oshkosh, where he dedicated 30 years of his life before retiring in 2003. On January 16, 1991, Steve married his beloved wife, Carmela Newcomb, in Oshkosh. Their partnership was a testament to their unwavering love and commitment, lasting until Carmela's passing in 2009. Prior to her departure, Steve devoted himself entirely to taking care of her, embodying the devotion that defined their life together.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Steve was deeply engaged in his community. He was an active member of the Pickett Steam and Gas Engine Club in the early 2000’s and took on a significant leadership role as the president of the Omro Tractor Club in the early 90’s. Among his proudest achievements was fully rebuilding a 1947 Model A John Deere Tractor from the ground up, a project that showcased his love for farming and mechanics.
Steve is survived by his three children: son, Dan (Carly) Kurtz; daughter Crystal (Nick) Bell, and son, Steven (Mandy) Kurtz. He delighted in the company of his 11 grandchildren: Haily (Ethan) Reynolds, Hannah (Kaden) Goldapske, Erich Kurtz, Gavin Kurtz, Catey Kurtz, Stephen Kurtz, Sabrina Meisle, Jonathon Ramsdell Jr., Willow Kurtz, Melody Kurtz, and Rylyn Kurtz. His family also includes three great-grandchildren; a sister Janet (Jim) Schellinger; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
