Shirley Whooley
Date of Death: Jan 26, 2021

1929 - 2021
Shirley L. Whooley, age 91, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home (the home Shirley and Jim built together and lived in until Jim passed in 1999).
Shirley came back to live at “home” at Thanksgiving and was so happy to be home. She said she couldn’t remember the last time she had seen a squirrel play outside. Shirley was the daughter of Kasper “Bud” and Dorothy Burts Smith. She was a graduate of Fond du Lac Goodrich High School in 1947. In 1947 she married Gordon Smith in Fond du Lac and had two sons. On July 2, 1955 she married James Whooley in Waupun and together they had a son and two daughters. The couple resided on a farm with their children north of Waupun all of their married life. Shirley’s early life centered on her family and in later years she enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, walking, reading, and being a tutor, and volunteer as well as being a member of the Waupun Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons, Mark (Dianne) Smith of San Antonio, TX, Richard Smith of Oxnard, CA, Michael Whooley and two daughters, Kathryn (James) Howard, Margaret (John Hokenson) Whooley and fourteen grandchildren, Gary Smith, Amy Smith, Richard Jr. Smith, Daniel Smith, Devon Whooley, Kiah Howard, Marcus Howard, Erin Howard, Ellen Bille, Joseph Bille, Betsy Bille, Hannah Hokenson, Holly Hokenson, and Klara Hokenson, plus several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, a brother, Phil, and a daughter-in-law, Julie.

No services will be held.
Shirley was a wonderful person, loved talking with her at Trinity Episcopal Church in Waupun. She was always willing to help when needed at church. We have moved to Indiana and wondered quite often how she was doing.
My husband remembers being an acolyte with her sons at church.
Our condolence to your family.

I LOVED your Mom…so many great memories…
Hugs and Prayers to all of you at this time.
Thanks Tricia. Lots of great memories with our moms.
I remember having her as my cub scout leader! All the cub scouts would take a school bus to her home in the country and run down their long driveway Their two saint benards would run to meet us. She was an excellent leader. I was in the same class as her son Mark. May she rest in peace!!
To the Whooley Family.
We have so many great memories of the entire family. In particular, I remember Shirley’s morning visits with my mom Kay. Mom loved the intellectual, supportive and fun conversations plus some intense Scrabble games. Shirley provided the support Mom needed after my dads passing and always had kind words for me. Our condolences to the immediate and extended families.
Warmest regards, Matt and Cathy, Mark, Rick and Fran, Luke, Chris and Ann.
Thank you. So many memories between our families growing up. I can’t think of my childhood without thinking of the Kittells.
So sorry to hear of Shirley’s death. She was definitely one of the nicest persons we have ever known. I’m sure all of you will miss her.
Thank you.
I loved talking to your Mom at Prairie Ridge. She said she enjoyed it when I’d come over and visit with her in the dining room. Your parents and Jim’s parents were good friends. Plus, when I was little (a long time ago) we were neighbors. My dad (Edwin Hull) really enjoyed talking to “old Jim Whooley”, Dad was older than him I believe! Mom misses seeing your mom at Prairie Ridge too. Condolences to all!
I have fond memories of Eddie and June as well. Thank you for the kind words.
I just saw that Shirley had passed way.
Sorry for your loss.
I have many fond memories of life with her.Especially when I was lucky enough to stay with her.
Love you Shirley & have for many years. Be at peace dear one.
