Russell C. Vande Zande

Russell C. Vande Zande, 89, of Waupun, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at Marvin’s Manor in Waupun.

Russell was born March 18, 1928 in the town of Alto, the son of Henry and Hazel Prange Vande Zande. On September 10, 1953 he married Tena Westra in Friesland. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Waupun area all their married lives. Russell farmed on the family farm until 1978 and hauled livestock for many local farmers until 1999 at which time he drove the parts truck for Homan’s Auto for several years. He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. Throughout the years he was involved in the church as a deacon, elder, and sang in the choir. He was a member of several area men’s choruses.

Russell is survived by his children: Karen (Richard) Redeker of Brandon, and Kelvin “Kelly” (Sandy) Vande Zande of Brandon; grandchildren: Dan (Amy) Redeker, Eric (Beth Ann) Redeker, Klint (Megan) Vande Zande, and Kyle (Jamie) Vande Zande; great-grandchildren: Ally, Reed, and Elijah Redeker, Klayton and Karter Vande Zande, and a great-grandchild due in July; a brother, Neil (Judy) Vande Zande of Waupun; two sisters: Shirley Sjoerdsma of Randolph, and Phyllis (Jerry) Westra of Bradenton, FL; along with nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Tena Vande Zande, in 2010.


Friends and relatives may call on the family at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.



Funeral Services for Russell Vande Zande will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon with Rev. John Tilstra officiating.


Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery.
