Rita Mielke, 79, of rural Markesan, died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Rita was born March 15, 1935, west of Berlin at Big Island, the daughter of Harry and Helen Sina Hoodie. In 1953 Rita graduated from Rosendale High School. On November 5, 1960 Rita married Gerald “Bud” Mielke in Brandon. Following their marriage the couple farmed all of their married lives in the town of Mackford. Prior to their marriage, Rita worked for Green Giant Canning Company in Ripon and Rosendale for about seven years. Rita enjoyed sewing, quilting, her cats, and especially being with her great-grandchildren. Rita was always available to help others. Rita was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Markesan.
Rita is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gerald “Bud” Mielke of rural Markesan; a daughter, Annette Schimming and her husband, Peter of rural Beaver Dam; a grandson, Jeremy Worm and his wife, Jessica of rural Waupun; two step-grandsons: Nathan Schimming and special friend, Sierra Young of Marinette and Matthew Schimming and fiancée, Diana Breidenbach of Beaver Dam; four great-grandchildren: Jason Hattaway, Jalynn Worm, Jade Worm, and Sophia Schimming; and three sisters: Virginia “Ginny” Robson of Sun Prairie, Regina “Jean” Burk of Waupun, and Susan Hoodie of Omro.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Harry Hoodie, and an infant brother, Casmier; and a brother-in-law, Terry Burk.
Visitation:
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Services:
Funeral services for Rita Mielke will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, formerly St. Joseph’s, in Markesan with Rev. Paulraj Sellam officiating.
Burial:
Burial will follow at Mackford Union Cemetery in the town of Mackford.
