Preston “Pat” Vande Berg, 79, of Waupun, died Monday, March 20, 2017.
Pat was born April 7, 1937 in rural Brandon, Fond du Lac County, the son of John and Bessie Vanden Berg Vande Berg. Pat attended Brandon schools and later served in the U.S. Army with time spent in Germany. On January 14, 1959 he married Carol Westhuis. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Waupun area all their married lives. Pat worked at Silgan Containers in Waupun as a press mechanic and retired after more than 40 years of employment. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Fox Lake Country Club for many years. He enjoyed many sports, but most of all loved to watch his granddaughters participate in athletics. Pat was a member of Union-Congregational Church in Waupun.
Pat is survived by his children: Lecia (Jeff) Huenink of Waupun, Kevin Vande Berg of Waupun, and Jon Vande Berg of Fond du Lac; three grandchildren: Cassandra Vande Berg, and Erica and Emily Huenink; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Bailey; a brother, Wallace “Art” (Arlene) Vande Berg of Brandon; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, in 2008; six brothers: Bernard, Alvin, Edward, Donald, Raymond, and Chet Vande Berg; and a sister, Henrietta Van Ruiswyk.
It was Pat’s request not to have a formal service but a celebration of his life will take place in the near future.
