Melrose C. Van Dyke

October 28, 1925 — May 3, 2017

Melrose C. Van Dyke, age 91 of Randolph, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Christian Home in Waupun. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home in Cambria with Rev. Tim Ehrhardt officiating. Burial will follow in the Randolph Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Melrose was born on October 28, 1925, in Fountain Prairie Township, rural Randolph, Wisconsin, the daughter of Jacob and Agnes (Mossel) Alderden. She was united in marriage on July 16, 1949 to Gerald M. Van Dyke at the First Reformed Church in Randolph. Melrose was a 1943 graduate of Fox High School. She and her husband lived in Randolph where they owned and operated Melrose Supermarket for 41 years until they retired in 1988. They spent their winters in Mission, Texas from 1992-2007. Melrose was a member of the First Reformed Church of Randolph where she sang in the choir for several years and was advisor for the Girls’ League for two years. She was a member of the Beaver Dam VFW Auxiliary 1163. Melrose will be sadly missed and mourned by her daughters, Lois Ann (Scott) Berg of Brookfield and Nola Rae of Randolph; twin granddaughters, Elizabeth and Genevieve Berg of Brookfield; one sister, Inez Bryden of Ripon; one brother, Robert (Karen) Alderden of Fox Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Melrose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald on Jan. 18, 2016; one brother, James Edward Alderden; her sisters, Audrey Fietz and Betty Rahn; her brothers-in-law, Marvin Rahn, John Fietz, Clifford Bryden, Vivian Van Dyke and Ronald Van Dyke; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Van Dyke and Edith Van Dyke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Waupun Christian Home and Rehab Center Building Fund, 331 Bly Street, Waupun, WI 53963. A special thanks to the dedicated staff at the Christian Home in Waupun, who gave excellent care and support to Melrose and her family this past year.
