Melanie Kay Wiersma-Langsdorf

Melanie Kay “Rachel” Wiersma-Langsdorf, age 65 of Rio passed away suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2024 while at her job at the Marshfield Medical Clinic in Beaver Dam.

Melanie was born on January 4, 1959 at Waupun Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Gerald and Sylvia (De Jager) Wiersma. She attended Cambria-Friesland Schools and graduated with honors in 1977. She also graduated with honors from Madison Area Technical College as a Medical Transcriptionist in 1978. Melanie was then hired at Beaver Dam Hillside Hospital and worked there her whole life and later as a Pharmacy Technician. As she typed up patients medical records for many years, she would pray as she typed for God to help or heal each patient in need. Melanie had been a member of Friesland Reformed Church where she played piano for the children to sing along to. She also loved attending many live concerts with family and friends, including shows at the Fireside Theatre. Melanie loved all creatures, from fur babies to plants and flowers. On Oct. 7, 1989 she was married to Michael Allan Langsdorf.

Melanie will be sadly missed and mourned by her mother, Sylvia Wiersma of Friesland; brother Kevin (Shelley) Wiersma of Cambria; three nieces who were more like her own children, Ashley (Alex) Ralph of Houston, TX, Courtney Wiersma of Cambria and Brittany (Manuel) Ramirez of Fall River; six grandnieces and grandnephews, Liam and Ellie, Nellie and Lynnie, Carmine and Ada; her dog Dixie and her many Kitties; several other relatives, many dear friends and her wonderful neighbors who were so good to her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald “Jack” Wiersma, grandparents, Sam (Effie) Wiersma and Ted (Jennie) De Jager.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Friesland Community Church with Pastor Darrin Vant Hoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be made in honor of Melanie K. Wiersma-Langsdorf to a humane society of one’s choice.
