Mary Vande Zande

January 8, 1934 — April 3, 2025

Mary Vande Zande, age 91, of Waupun, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025.

Mary, the daughter of Albert and Dorothy Lovejoy, was born in Byron WI on January 8,1934. Mary grew up on a farm, which instilled in her a deep appreciation for the value of hard work and community. She graduated from Oakfield High School in 1951 and subsequently held various jobs in the Waupun area. However, her most meaningful work was rescuing cats and treating them with the same love and care she gave her family.

A passionate cook and baker, Mary delighted her loved ones with her culinary creations, though she was particularly known for her delicious apple pies. Cooking for friends and family brought her joy. She took the most pride in taking care of her family, most of all for her son, Scott and her grandson, Austin. Mary loved to tell stories about her life. Mary often smiled and said Austin would lovingly say to her, "Grandma, you talk too much." Mary was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she not only participated faithfully but also held Bible classes in the comfort of her home.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Scott (Holly) Erskine Vande Zande of Waupaca; her devoted nieces and nephews, Debby Lewis, Caroline Eisenberg, and Gregg Brenner; as well as her great-nieces and nephews, Amanda Malloy, Robert Lewis, Cori Brenner, and Josh Brenner.

Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Jean; her husband, Howard; her grandson, Austin Vande Zande; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Brenner; and her nephew, Daniel J. Brenner.

Funeral services are currently pending.
