Mary J. Hartgerink, 88, formerly of Waupun, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Coloma with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.

Mary was born June 28, 1933 in the town of Trenton in Dodge County, the daughter of Ray and Lola Baggett Van Loo. On July 6, 1951 she married Harold W. Hartgerink in Brandon. Following their marriage the couple resided in Waupun where they raised their children. Mary had a passion for sewing and quilting. She took great joy in teaching others the skill and various other aspects of sewing. Her family, friends, and especially nieces looked forward to their special wedding gift of which aunt Mary sewed for them. Mary worked for Nancy’s Notions in Beaver Dam and also Gysbers Grocery in Waupun. Mary and Harold loved camping, went to the Hodag in Rhinelander for 20 years, and spent many winter months in Texas. She and Harold enjoyed life as they golfed, bowled, rode motorcycles, and snowmobiled together.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Zuehlke (Derek Verburgt) of Coloma; two sons: Jeff and Fred Hartgerink; grandchildren: Regen Zemke (Crystal Moreau), Amanda Hartgerink, Alicia and Lulu Zuehlke, Josh Perry, Dean, Justus, and Anastasia Verburgt; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Dakota, Elianna, and Isabella Hartgerink, Annabelle Zemke, and Sawyer Lyons; special sister, Phyllis Williams; and sisters-in-law, Helen Hartgerink and Ardis Redeker.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hartgerink in 2014; along with brothers-in-law; sister-in-law; and other relatives.



Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.



Memorial services for Mary J. Hartgerink will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. Barry Lang officiating.
