Mark Stuebs

September 1, 1954 — January 13, 2025

The Lord welcomed Mark into heavenly paradise on January 13th. One of the last things that Mark would want from his obituary would be to talk about himself, bringing up all his accomplishments, or talking about how great of a father, husband, and friend that he was. Even though those are true, he wouldn’t want it written about how much he loved his kids and grandkids, sometimes working jobs that he didn’t necessarily enjoy, so he could have more time to be more involved in their lives. He wouldn’t want it written about the miles driven and hours taken to attend all of his grandkids sporting events, music recitals and school concerts. He wouldn’t want it written about how he and his wife (Paula) spent much of their life taking care of their 2nd oldest child, Kristy, who was born with severe and profound developmental disabilities. He wouldn’t want it written about the 45 years of marriage God blessed him with Paula, growing in the Lord, strengthening each other, and raising 4 children. He wouldn’t want it written about his influence he has had in ongoing spiritual formation of his other three surviving children, their spouses, and the 12 grandchildren that the Lord has given him. He wouldn’t want it written talking about his legendary Christmas letters, unconventional disciplinary approaches, unannounced visits to houses, sermon recommendations sent in email to his kids and relatives, facebook ministry, thrift store purchases to sell on eBay, arguments on theology, very strong opinion on many topics, spoiling of the grandkids, and most of all, him showing the love of Christ to all those involved in his life.

Despite all the above being true, what he would want this obituary to focus on, is giving glory to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He would want it to reach more lives for the sake of the Gospel. He would want to tell everyone to make Jesus Christ Lord of their lives. He would want to include sermons, quotes, snippets, and sayings by John Maccarthur, RC Sproul, Voddie Baucham, Paul Washer, and many other reformed theologians. He would want to express how a person is not saved by your works, but rather through faith through the gift of the Holy Spirit . He would want to share how we are all broken people, separated from God by our sin and totally depraved to do anything on our own. But he wouldn’t stop there. He would want to tell you how Jesus Christ died on the cross. A cross that we all deserved. How he died on the cross to save those - who confess their sins, realize they are broken, in need of a Savior, and trust in the Lord as their one and only Savior. He would want to tell you the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life. He would want to tell you, in all that we do and everything that we have, God gets all the glory!

There are not enough words that can go out enough to thank Dr. Said, Lindsay Aschliman, and Dr. Norden. A special thanks also to all of UW health's doctors and nurses who poured into the life of the Stuebs family through his medical needs the past several years. Equally important is all the love and encouragement given by immediate and extended family, and friends from near and far. Edgewood Community Church’s pastors and the church family as a whole has been a tremendous support throughout the highs and lows and it truly is a blessing from the Lord to have leadership and a church family like Edgewood. While it’s never easy losing anyone here on this earth, as believers in Christ we can have the ultimate assurance that Mark is walking with Jesus right now, rejoicing with the angels, and with his Father for all of eternity.
