Marie Teresa Schomisch, 91, of Waupun, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2018.

Marie was born February 6, 1927 in Kaukauna, WI the 5th child of George and Florence Golden McDaniel. Marie grew up on the family farm and watched her older brothers go off to war when she was a teen. She started public high school in De Pere and later transferred to St. Joseph’s Academy in Green Bay where she graduated at age 17. After high school she worked as an operator at the telephone company in Green Bay. One night she went to a dance near Wrightstown with her older brothers and met Eldred Justin “Butch” Schomisch. They dated for three years and were married August 21, 1948. Butch and Marie lived in Oakfield for a few years and then found a beautiful farm just outside Waupun where they raised eight children and where Marie lived until a couple of years ago. Marie loved living out on the farm and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was known for her Irish wit and the beautiful sweaters and afghans she knitted for her family. Marie was a member of the altar society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun.

Marie is survived by her children: Tim (Kristy) McDaniel of Neenah, Colleen (George) Rawson of Fond du Lac, Anne (Tom) Missling of Appleton, Mary (Gary) Braaksma of Cambria, Brian (Dawn) Schomisch of Largo, FL, Jean (Jim) Steinmetz of Brookfield, and Patrick (Lori) Schomisch of Waupun; siblings: Bill (Jean) McDaniel, Pat McDaniel, and Anne McDaniel; grandchildren: Stacey, Brooke, Lindsy, Morgan, Kelsey, Lauren, Kellie, Kaitlyn, and Lydia; step-grandchildren: Chelsie and Nate; great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Aiden, Chloe, Damyeon, Aalyah, Mya, Logan, Brantley, Flynn, Adelynn, Decklan, Natalie, Ava, and Mason; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldred “Butch”; son, Daniel Patrick; sister, Rita; and brothers, Bob and Thomas.


Friends and relatives may call on the family on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.


Funeral services for Marie Schomisch will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun with Fr. John Radetski officiating.


Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waupun.


The family of Marie Schomisch wishes to thank the staff at Marvin’s Manor and Agnesian Hospice Care for making her feel at home and taking such great care of her.
