Lyle Veleke, 87, of Oshkosh, formerly of Waupun, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Bethel Home in Oshkosh.
Lyle was born March 7, 1925 in Waupun the son of Herman and Grace Redeker Veleke. On February 6, 1947 he married Helen Greenfield in Waupun. Following their marriage the couple resided in Waupun until 2009 at which time they moved to Oshkosh. Over the years, Lyle delivered fuel oil for Standard Oil, Vande Berg Oil Company, Peters Shell Oil, and then was employed by the City of Waupun as a water plant operator for six years, retiring in 1990. Lyle was a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun where he had been active as an elder, deacon, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir and men’s chorus for several years. Lyle also sang in a quartet and the Men of Praise men’s chorus. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army and spent much of his tour of duty in Korea. Lyle enjoyed boating with his wife, Helen, along with fishing and hunting. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and great-great children and enjoyed the family gatherings.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Veleke of Oshkosh; a son, Bob (Jodi) Veleke of Clintonville, WI; a daughter, Donna (Brad) Cooper of Oshkosh; four granddaughters, Rachelle (James) Smith, Stacey (Rick) Rahmlow, Angela (Greg) Lund, and Kristin (Kimberly Detherage) Veleke; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Marie) Veleke of Ripon; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Veleke of Waupun, Angie (Bob) Tank of Waupun, and Ruby Van Der Laan of IL; sister-in-law, Lillian Greenfield of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Lee Westhuis; two brothers, Horace Veleke and Wayne Veleke; two nephews, Jerry Veleke and Ken Veleke.
Services:
Funeral services for Lyle Veleke will be held Monday, March 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. John White officiating. American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military honors.
Burial:
Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.
Visitation:
Friends and relatives of Lyle Veleke may call on the family on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
