LeRoy H. Hughes, 89, of Waupun, died peacefully Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital in Madison.



LeRoy was born May 5, 1926 in Cambria, WI the son of William and Dora Wagner Hughes. LeRoy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in The Korean War. In February of 1955 he married Anna Benditto and the couple raised their family in Cambria. LeRoy was a certified meat cutter at the grocery store in Cambria until his retirement in 1990. Then they moved to Mellen, WI so LeRoy could enjoy his passion for fishing and hunting. In 2010 the couple moved to Waupun to be near their children. LeRoy enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated member of the Cambria American Legion Post 401.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Hughes of Waupun; daughters: Marcia (Fred) Stancer of Waupun, and Suzanne (Ken) Reilley of Hancock; son, Arthur (Jeanette) Schneider of Waunakee; seven grandchildren: Jamie (Sarah) Beek, Amy (Ken) Huenink, Jennifer (Leo) Moravek, Ken Reilley, Jr., Annmarie (Marty) den Daas, Alicia ( Jay) Schweitzer and Angela (Adam) Toepp; eight great-grandchildren: Spencer and Cameron Beek, Taylor, Brady and Haley Huenink, Bryanna Moravek, and Kenzy and Megan Reilley; four brothers: Edwin (Donna), Marvin (Marge), Elmer (Betty), and Emrys Hughes; three sisters: Evelyn Mohr, Mary (Robert) Lentz, and Phyllis (Keith) Hutzler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Denise Reilley; three sisters: Elizabeth Dalton, Eileen Schave, and Gwendolyn Westgard; a brother, William Hughes, Jr.; and four brothers-in-law: Charles Dalton, Henry Schave, Donald Mohr, and Donald Westgard.




Visitation:


Family and friends may call on the family on Sunday at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.



Services:


Funeral services for LeRoy Hughes will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Jack Kraaz officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Cambria American Legion Post 401.
