Larry Scott Sailor

August 9, 1941 — December 16, 2021

Cambria: Larry Scott Sailor, age 80 of Cambria, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021. Larry was born August 9, 1941 in Lamar, MO to Charles Byron and Janie Elizabeth (Scott) Sailor. He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served in Korea and VietNam and was honorably discharged after serving 13 plus years. After leaving active duty he taught ROTC at UW Whitewater. Over the years Larry worked as a mechanic and salesperson as well as owning his own businesses. On December 27, 1981 Larry was united in marriage with Josephine Marie Yapp Drinkwine in New Glarus, WI. After living on a farm in New Glarus they moved to rural Cambria living on a farmette in Courtland Township. Larry and Jo moved to the Village of Cambria in 1992, together they started a business South Central Maintenance & Construction which continued until his retirement. While in the Army he traveled throughout Europe, After returning to the U.S. he continued to travel with his family. Some of his favorite interests were camping, going to races at Road America near Elkhart Lake, attending the Midwest Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant, IA and visiting our national parks out West several times. Depending on the time of the year, Larry would either trailer up his Harley or his sled for snowmobiling. He was an antique car enthusiast, had a good sense of humor, a good cook, loved music especially old country western and jazz. In the 50s and 60s he attended many concerts where he saw Elvis, Tina Turner, Chuck Berry, BB King and many others. He loved a good party. He made swing sets, merry-go-rounds, go carts, pony carts, etc. for children and grandchildren–anything that was fun. He made a motorhome out of a UPS van. He could make something out of nothing or a pile of junk.
