Henry J. Vande Zande, 89, of Waupun, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at The Christian Homestead in Waupun.
Henry was born July 30, 1932 in the town of Trenton the son of John and Henrietta Boerson Vande Zande. Henry graduated from Brandon High School and then served his country in the Army for two years. He was wounded in Korea on July 15, 1953 and earned the Purple Heart medal. On June 7, 1956 he married Lorraine Vanden Berg at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. They farmed for 21 years and then moved to Brandon in 1977. He was a rural mail carrier in Brandon for 45 years. He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church where he served as elder, deacon, and also taught Sunday School for 55 years. He served as trustee on the Village of Brandon Board for 12 years. He was named Fond du Lac County Senior Citizen Volunteer of The Year for 2008. In 2014 Henry and Lorraine moved to Waupun.
Henry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine; five children: Kathy (Merlon) Fairbanks of Burke, SD, Larry (Mary) of Waupun, Jack (Carrie) of Sun City, AZ, Tom (Cherie) of Rosendale, and Amy (Joe) Tankovich of Longmont, CO; seven grandchildren: Marcy Fairbanks, Adam, Nathan, Owen, Ben, Hattie, and Meredith Vande Zande; a great-grandson, Grayson; two sisters: LaVerne Vande Zande and Betty Bruins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Ruby Braun, Jessie Vanden Berg, and Helen Vande Zande; brother, Dave Vande Zande; nephew, Jon Vanden Berg; and niece, Jane Nitschke.
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Funeral services for Henry J. Vande Zande will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon with Rev. John Tilstra officiating. Military honors will be performed
Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
