Harold Eugene Greenfield, 89, of rural Waupun, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 at his home with family by his side.
Harold was born July 8, 1933 in Waupun, the fifth child of Raymond and Hattie Mulder Greenfield. At the age of 16 Harold moved to Racine to work for his brother-in-law, Art Kuiper on his farm. Later he also worked for the Massey Harris Company in Racine. Harold was drafted into service for the U.S. Army and served from 1953-1955, most of which was spent in Germany. After returning home he continued courting Carol Kemink and they were married April 11, 1957. The couple then started their farming life outside of Waupun. Harold spent the rest of his working life on the farm. He milked cows from the beginning until he sold them in 2014 at the age of 81. He loved his farm work and still did all of the tillage work on the farm in the fall of 2022 at the age of 89.
Harold and Carol were parents to eight children; five daughters and three sons. Those eight children eventually turned into 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Harold was a life-long member of First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun and served the church as an elder. He loved music and loved to sing during church services. He sent all of his children to Central Wisconsin Christian School in Waupun where he also served as a board member. His life was built upon his faith in Jesus Christ. Passing that faith onto his children and grandchildren was the most important thing to him.
Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol; all eight of his children: Sheryl (Jeff) Hoekstra, David (Laurie) Greenfield, Kevin (Brenda) Greenfield, Karen (Joe) Durant, Laurel (Dale) Huizenga, Jane (Bruce) Vanden Brink, Randall (Kim) Greenfield, and Sharla (Craig) Slings; 21 grandchildren: Hope (Jason) Prochnow, Stacy Hoekstra, Alex Hoekstra, Claire (RJ) Wittmann, Judd (Julie) Durant, Lauren (Kirk) Van Buren, Kelli Durant, Seth (Jacqueline) Huizenga, Austin (Michal) Huizenga, Collin Huizenga, Annika Huizenga, Annalyse Huizenga, Janna Vanden Brink, Karli Vanden Brink, Brynn Vanden Brink, Megan Greenfield, Ryer Greenfield, Emma Slings, Caleb Slings, Avery Slings, and Carter Slings; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Kathy Greenfield, Ellen Kemink, and Betty Kemink; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Otto and Cornelia Kemink; siblings: Gladys Van Herwaarden, Clarence Greenfield, Helena Kuiper, Ruben Greenfield, Don Greenfield, Bob Greenfield, and Wayne Greenfield; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Hank Van Herwaarden, Alyce Greenfield, Art Kuiper, Sharon Greenfield, Rachel Greenfield, Orville Kemink, Harland Kemink, and Lorraine Kemink; and niece Donna Kuiper.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to Central Wisconsin Christian School in Waupun.
