Gladys Kastein

Gladys M. Kastein, 102, of Waupun, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Christian Home in Waupun.

Gladys was born August 24, 1919 in the town of Trenton, the daughter of Bert and Alice Vande Zande Vande Streek. On June 5, 1940 she married Theodore “Ted” Kastein in Alto. She and Ted farmed in the Alto area until 1965. Gladys was a member of Alto Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Gladys loved to quilt. Over the years, Gladys has made many quilts of which her children, grandchildren, and friends continue to enjoy. She was a volunteer at the Waupun Senior Center and was fondly known as the “puzzle lady” at the Christian Home.

Gladys is survived by her six children: Karen (Karl) Lange of Waupun, Lois (John) Staehling of Waupun, Judy (David) Zoschke of Orono, MN, Gary Kastein (friend, Julie Sensenbrenner) of Fond du Lac, Linda (Michael) Puls of Madison, and Larry (Kutzy) Kastein of Tomahawk, WI; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Harrison Vande Streek of Fond du Lac, Bernard (Doris) Vande Streek of Fond du Lac, and Wayne (Emma Jean) Vande Streek of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; sister, Cynthia Kastein and her husband, Kenneth; sister, Eleanor Ter Beest and her husband, Melvin; sister-in-law, Lucille Van Loo and her husband, Germaine; sister-in-law, Leatrice Vande Streek; son-in-law, Don Aylesworth; infant grandson, Aylesworth; granddaughter, Lisa Zoschke; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Staehling.



Friends and relatives may call on the family on Sunday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-6 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.



Funeral services for Gladys Kastein will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Alto Reformed Church in the town of Alto with Rev. Kevin Van Wyk officiating.


Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery.
