Gerald "Jerry" M. Van Dyke

Randolph: Gerald "Jerry" M. Van Dyke, age 93 of Randolph, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Christian Home in Waupun. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at the First Reformed Church in Randolph, 406 S. High St. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Ehrhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Cemetery with military graveside rights provided by Randolph VFW Post 9510. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Jerry was born on July 4, 1922 in Bay Minette, Alabama, the son of August Lock and Sarah (Tillema) Van Dyke. He moved with his parents to Randolph in 1927. He was married on July 16, 1949, to Melrose C. Alderden at the First Reformed Church, in Randolph. Jerry was a 1942 graduate of Randolph High School. He and his wife lived in Randolph where they owned and operated Melrose Supermarket for 41 years until they retired in 1988. They spent their winters in Mission, TX, from 1992-2007. Jerry was a member of the First Reformed Church of Randolph and served as a deacon for two years. He served in the army Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a member of the 959th A.B.S.BN., stationed in Iceland. Jerry was a former member of the Randolph Kiwanis and served as treasurer for several years. Jerry was a member of Randolph VFW Post 9510 and served as Post Commander for two terms. Jerry was also a member of the Fox Lake American Legion. Survivors include his wife; daughters Lois Ann (Scott) Berg, of Brookfield, and Nola Rae, of Randolph; twin granddaughters Elizabeth and Genevieve Berg, of Brookfield; brother-in-law Robert (Karen) Alderden, of Fox Lake; sister-in-law Inez Bryden, of Ripon; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Viola Van Dyke; brothers Vivian and Ronald Van Dyke; sisters-in-law Shirley Van Dyke, Edith Van Dyke, Audrey Feitz and Betty Rahn; brothers-in-law James Edward Alderden, Marvin Rahn, John Feitz and Clifford Bryden. A special thanks to the dedicated staff at the Christian Home, in Waupun, who gave excellent care and support to Jerry and his family these past few monthes.
