Floyd L. DeVries, 65, of Waupun, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 10, 2012.



Floyd was born September 3, 1946 in Beaver Dam the son of John F. and Sadie Heeringa DeVries. Floyd attended Randolph Christian School, Central Wisconsin Christian School and later Randolph High School from which he graduated in 1963. On August 3, 1968 he married Cheryl Herzog in East Friesland. The couple farmed and raised their children in the rural Fox Lake area. In 1994, Floyd became employed as a corrections officer at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun. In 1997 they sold their farm and he continued his employment in corrections where he was a member of its “Honor Guard.” Floyd was an associate member of Edgewood Community Church in Waupun. Floyd was a kind soul who embraced life and enjoyed time with friends and family. He loved farming, enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, was a hard worker, very patriotic, had a big heart and was devoted to his family.

Floyd is survived by his three children, Lisa (Wes) Breder of Huntsville, TX, Leah (John) Unser of Crystal Lake, IL, Matthew (Tanya) DeVries of Junction City, KS; five grandchildren, Loren and Levi Breder, Lucas and Meghan Schmidt, and Nolan Unser; his mother, Sadie DeVries of Waupun; five sisters, Helene (Arky) Navis of Waupun, Ann (Frank) DeYoung of Waupun, Sharon Harmsen of Waupun, Janis (Curtis) Bordewyk of Montpelier, VA, Kristel (Roger) Weinberger of Randolph; a brother, Mark (Duane) DeVries of Randolph; and several nieces and nephews.

Floyd was preceded in death by his father, John F. DeVries; two nephews, Bradley and Todd Harmsen; and a brother-in-law, Barry Harmsen.


Services:
Funeral services for Floyd DeVries will be held Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun.

Visitation:
Friends and relatives of Floyd DeVries may call on the family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday at the funeral home from noon until the time of service.


The Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home of Waupun and staff are serving the family.
