Esther May Smith, age 87, of Ripon/Waupun died Tuesday, December 9th, 2014, at Ripon Medical Center.
Esther was born May 16th, 1927, in Frazee, Minn., to Edward C. and Sarah A. Barnes (nee Calton). On October 26th, 1949, Esther married Calvin C. Smith, who preceded her in death in 2005. Esther was employed at Montgomery Ward in Hammond, Indiana before moving to Wisconsin where she started working at MacGregor Sand-Knit in Waupun and also Tom Dooley’s Apple Orchard prior to her retirement. Esther and her husband enjoyed retirement living on the shores of Lake Puckaway. Esther and Calvin loved to travel and spent winters in Clearwater Beach, Fl and Padre Island, TX before settling in Ripon in 1998. Esther’s family was especially dear to her and she embraced the time she spent with them.
Esther is survived by a son Allen (Sally Heiser) Smith of Ripon, a daughter, Patricia Smith of Ripon, 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sandra) Wehle, Robert (Peggy) Wehle, Sara Lee, Tracy Birch, and Christine Mooney. She is further survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin and 3 grandchildren, Rebekah Schelter, Renee Heiser-Newby, and David Allen Smith.
Services:
A private family service will be held at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun.
Burial:
Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
