Elton Van Buren, age 69, passed away on November 27, 2024 at the UW Hospital in Madison.
Elton was born on December 31, 1954, the son of Marvin and Ethel Westra Van Buren. Elton graduated from Waupun High School in 1973. He worked at Alto Dairy where he demonstrated skill and leadership as a foreman and supervisor. The pinnacle of his professional achievements came when he was recognized as a master cheese maker and awarded for his exceptional colby cheese making.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Elton was a person of exceptional character known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He found joy in mowing lawns and plowing snow for those in need, embodying a life of service dedicated to his community. Elton was also the proud owner of a beloved dog, Miah, with whom he shared countless adventures. His love for the outdoors was evident through his enjoyment of motorcycle rides and family trips to notable destinations like Noah's Ark. Elton also spent countless hours at the hockey rink, basketball games, and baseball diamonds supporting his grandkids.
Elton is survived by his four sons: Shannon "Bud" (Stephanie) Van Buren, Nathan Van Buren (fiancée, Payal Chawda), Michael Jaremba (fiancée, Autumn Andrle), and Gabriel “Boy” Mendez; seven grandchildren: Mitchell Van Buren, Jade (Tyler) Bukowiec, Kilie (Stewart) Shaw, Brennan Van Buren, Keegan Van Buren (fiancée, Neidin Facer), Monica Jaremba, and Autumn Mendez, great-grandchildren: Adelyn Bukowiec and Silas BonDurant, and Ayla Elaine Bukowiec. Elton is also survived by five siblings: Ardell Van Buren, Berwyn (Audrey) Van Buren, Bonnie (Milan) Vande Zande, Merlin (Ann) Van Buren, and Rev. David (Sarah) Van Buren, along with an aunt, Margaret Mason, and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Marlin and Dean Van Buren.
Funeral services for Elton Van Buren will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 6 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
