Donald Rohde

January 31, 1937 — March 6, 2025

Donald J. Rohde, age 88, formerly of rural Cambria , passed away early morning on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Randolph Health Services, a beloved member of his community and cherished friend to many.

Don was born on January 31, 1937, on the family farm in the town of Scott, the son of William and Augusta Rahn Rohde. Don’s early years were spent attending the Inglehart Country School, where he began to cultivate his strong work ethic and devotion to family. His years as a hired hand for the Ed Hoffman farm were marked by diligence and friendship, but it was alongside his brother at Rohde’s Sales and Service that he truly found joy in hard work and camaraderie.

Life for Don was never about material wealth; rather, it was filled with the simple pleasures that brought true happiness. He took immense delight in cutting wood for family, friends, and those in need, embodying a spirit of generosity that influenced those around him. His yard, always immaculate, stood as a testament to his dedication and pride, much like his cherished annual family hayrides, pulled by his antique Farm-All Tractor, which brought joy to all who attended. The delight that Don found in life extended beyond work; he loved driving his Model-T car in parades, hoping to share the experience with a beautiful lady as his passenger.

Known for his infectious smile and passion for life, he proudly participated as an attendant at the Badger Steam and Gas shows and never missed the weekly summer Friesland band concerts and pie socials. His skills in checkers were legendary, evidence to his sharp mind and competitive spirit, and he will be forever remembered for his blue jean-bibs and always keeping himself busy. Don was a life-long member of the North Scott Baptist Church.

Don was deeply loved and will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews; brother-in-law, Donald Koenig; several other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Rolland (Florence), Darwin (Elenore), Kenneth (Annelore), Emery in infancy, Leona (Lee and Chuck), and Shirley; a special niece, Marianne; and his long-time feline companion, Trouble. Their spirits now gather around him, welcoming him home.

As we reflect on the cherished memories of Donald, we celebrate a life lived fully, a man whose character will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. In our hearts, he will remain alive through the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the enduring love he cultivated throughout his remarkable journey.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 12 noon at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Cambria.
