Donald J. Dykstra, 82, of Waupun, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Don was born October 29, 1929 in Waupun the son of George and Anna Redeker Dykstra. Don attended Waupun schools and graduated in 1948. On February 16, 1951 he married Shirley J. Harmsen in Waupun. Following Shirley’s passing, Don met Marilyn Krueger who became his devoted companion until his passing. Don was employed by S&N Ford in Waupun for five years as a bookkeeper. He was office manager at Waupun Roofing Co. and then employed at State Bank of Waupun for 26 years, retiring as president. Don was a 1965 graduate of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Don enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1951 and served 9 years in the Military Government with AAA and the 84th Division. He was a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun where he served as a deacon and was on various committees. Don served the Waupun Fire Department for 25 years and retired as First Assistant Chief. He also served as president of the Waupun Chamber of Commerce, Waupun Rotary Club and the Fond du Lac County Bankers Association. He served three years as the 5th Ward Alderman in Waupun and as Mayor of Waupun for two years. Don was active for over 40 years in Farm & Personal Property Auctions. He was employed as Farm Representative for Dairyman’s State Bank of Randolph. Don was a Fond du Lac County Supervisor from 1994 through 2006. He was on the Board of Directors for Marine Credit Union. Don loved spending time on the golf course and was a member of Fox Lake Golf Club. He enjoyed taking “his girls” shopping. He loved to travel, hunt, fish, and go boating.
Don is survived by Marilyn Krueger of Waupun; three daughters, Kathy Damask, Luann (Scott) Zurbuchen, Debra (John C.) Smits, all of Waupun; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt) Gau, Nicholas and Jacob Damask, Luke and Casey (Kristi) Zurbuchen, Krista (fiancée Joshua Zaddack) and Emily Smits; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Gau and Zayne Zurbuchen; two sisters, Mary (Bob) Rens, and Sylvia (Bud) Landaal, both of Waupun; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2003; a granddaughter, Erica Zurbuchen in 2011; two infant grandchildren; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred and Dorothy Westhuis.

Visitation:
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
Services:
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 6 p.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun. The Masonic Lodge #48 of Waupun will provide a short prayer prior to the service.
Burial:
Private committal services will be held the following day at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun where the American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military rites.
