Dewey Pausma, age 90, passed away on January 2, 2025.
Dewey was born on August 15, 1934 in the Netherlands, the son of Paul and Ella Meinema Pausma. Dewey's journey was one of hard work and dedication, marked by his commitment to family, faith, and his farm. On November 14, 1957 Dewey married Lois Greenfield at First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun, a union that would last for 67 years. Together, they built a life centered around their family and shared values.
Dewey was a life-long farmer. His early farming career began by renting farms, one being the Klooserboer farm on the county line before purchasing the home farm on County W now Jersey Rd in the Town of Trenton. To make ends meet in those early years he would work nights at the vining station for the canning factory, showcasing his strong work ethic and determination. After retiring from the farm, he continued to daily drive out to the farm to lend a hand and give the dog a treat. (He still came out to the farm in November)
In addition to his farming endeavors, Dewey proudly served in the United States Armed Forces, where he was a member of the U.S. Army for two years. Following his service, he remained active in his community as a member of the American Legion Post 210 of Waupun, where he dedicated many years as the Chaplain and served on the Honor Guard.
Dewey was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church, contributing to the congregation as head usher and as a member of the building committee. His commitment to service extended beyond his church, as he played an essential role in his community by operating the recycling center for the Town of Trenton and serving as the ditch mower.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife Lois; three children: Karen Pausma, Jeff (Melissa) Pausma, and Michael (Desirae) Pausma; 16 grandchildren: Ted Pausma, Tony Pausma, Joey (Hannah) Pausma, Justin (Nicci) Landaal, Nick Landaal, Chris (Jerica) Landaal, Tyler (Garritt Speers) Pausma, Tom (Gina) Pausma, Grace Pausma, Clay (Brianna) Pausma, Jocelyn (Steven) Bergland, Alex Pausma, Nathan, Zachary, Caleb, and Ashlynn Pausma; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers: Bill (Betty) Pausma and Donald (Linda) Pausma; sister, Marilyn Den Hollander; and numerous in-laws including Bea TeGrootenhuis, Trayton Greenfield, Georgene Mulder, Helen Vegter, Ron Greenfield, Nancy (Louie) Wierenga, Larry (Fran) Greenfield, Marlin (Judy) Greenfield, and Fr.
