David Vande Zande, 91, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, December 29, 2016.
David was born January 19, 1925 in the town of Alto, the son of John R. and Henrietta Boerson Vande Zande. David served his country for three years with the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific. He spent time near China, Australia, and Iwo Gima on a liberty ship as a gunner. He thoroughly enjoyed it and was proud to have served in the Navy. On March 24, 1948 he married Marie Bronkhorst in Brandon. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Brandon area most of their married lives. The couple farmed for eight years. Dave then worked for Michels Pipeline, Hooper Construction, and upon retiring worked for Head Start near Markesan as a custodian. Dave was a member of American Legion Post 0329 in Briggsville, WI. He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marie Vande Zande of Beaver Dam; a son, Mitchell Vande Zande of Waupun; a daughter, Debra (Michael) Hammer of Waupun; two grandchildren, Andrea (John) Huss and Steven Vande Zande; two great-grandchildren, Andy and Sadie Huss; a brother, Henry (Lorraine) Vande Zande of Waupun; three sisters: Helen Vande Zande of Brandon, LaVerne Vande Zande of Brandon, and Betty Bruins of rural Markesan; and nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruby Brown and Jessie Vanden Berg.
Friends and relatives may call on the family at Bethel Reformed Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Funeral services for Dave Vande Zande will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at
Bethel Reformed Church
in Brandon with Rev. John Tilstra officiating.
Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery where American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military honors.
