Darryl E. Pike, 87, passed away June 27, 2024 after a lengthy history of heart disease leading to dementia as well as other health issues.
Darryl was born November 5, 1936 in Waupun, WI the son of Eugene L. and Alice (Vande Zande) Pike. Due to an illness of his mother he lived with an aunt and uncle, Arthur and Grace Jenquin, also of Waupun, for most of his childhood years. He spent many years managing stores for the former Schultz Bros. Co. Darryl served with the 32nd Army Guard Division and participated in the call up during the Berlin Crisis. Along with his wife, Virginia they owned and operated a Ben Franklin store in Mauston, WI. Darryl experienced recurrent heart problems and during this time was involved in selling real estate in the Madison area for several years, doing H&R Block tax preparation, as well as working at Century 21, Stark, 1st Reality. He later worked part-time as a representative for various companies, and lastly with the Proctor and Gamble Company. Darryl was very interested in current events, political and business issues, and was an avid reader of history. He followed the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers teams with much enthusiasm. He was a proud stockholder of the Packers.
Darryl is survived by his wife Virginia; two sons: Timothy (Amy), Torrey (Leigh); a daughter, Terri; six grandchildren: Andrew, Tyler (fiance, Fawn), Zachary (Amanda), Caleb (Samantha), Holly, and Cole (Beca) Pike; five great-grandchildren: Alicia, Ashton, Jackson, Mason and Halle Pike; a brother, Dick (Sue); brothers-in-law: Bill and Marlin; sisters-in-law: Alice, Linda, and Judi; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends: Carol, Mary B., and Mary P. who were very helpful in his care; as well as many others.
Darryl was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra; brothers-in-law: Francis and Morris; and sister-in-law, Mary.
Memorial services for Darryl Pike will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. A private burial will take place at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday, July 26, 2024 at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
