Charlotte Tamminga, age 84, of Cambria, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Columbus Health and Rehab in Columbus.
Charlotte was born on March 27, 1940, the daughter of Marvin and Evelyn(Smith) Markin. Charlotte was united in marriage to Trayton Tamminga in Portage, Wisconsin on June 16th, 1956. Together they farmed in the rural Cambria area and raised their family. She enjoyed farming and living at the farm, spending time outside tending to her large flower garden, watching her solar lights come on in the summer, and watching the birds eat in the feeders she had placed throughout the yard. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading countless numbers of books, watching Dark Shadows TV Series, and cooking elaborate meals for each holiday.
She is survived by three daughters, Jean Cook of Kohler, Sandra (Donald) Livingston of Austin, Minnesota, and Tracey (Robert Jr.) McConnell of Beaver Dam; three grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Dusick, John (Natalie) Cook, and Markus Cook; two great-grandchildren, Beren and Otto Dusick; one sister, Irma (Brad) Brechtl; many nieces, nephews, several other relatives, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Markin and Evelyn Radant; her husband, Trayton Tamminga; brother Chuck Markin; two sisters Alice Zuch and Inez Unger; and daughter, Cynthia Tamminga.
Charlotte was well known for tending to a huge garden with Trayton over the years. This was followed by her harvesting, canning, and freezing vegetables and making jam to pass along to her girls and close family members. She would enjoy feeding the stray cats in the area and was able to coax one of them to come into her home where it became part of the family.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care Charlotte received from the staff at Columbus Health and Rehab and for the support provided to her by Generations Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be presented to the family which will be donated to a charity of the family’s choice.
Private family services were held.
