Carol A. Leu

d. July 7, 2014

Carol A. Leu, 81, of Waupun, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun where she resided the past year.

Carol was born March 10, 1933, the daughter of Arnold Henry and Loretta Emma Wenzel Koplien. She grew up in Amherst, WI with her parents and four sisters. On December 18, 1954 she married Albert Frank Leu. They had a long and loving marriage, making their home in Waupun and raising three rambunctious boys. After surviving that ordeal she was blessed with six granddaughters. Family was important to Carol. She stayed close with her sisters her entire life, through letters, phone calls, and the much anticipated “Sister’s Reunion” each summer. As for her husband, children, and grandchildren, she was the center of their worlds. She loved having everyone over to the house on Vliet St. on the weekends for cookouts, playing board games, and (even though she had no interest whatsoever in football) she enjoyed hosting Packer parties all season long. She worked as a full-time mom/grandma the majority of her life, keeping the house well-stocked with ice-cream, cookies, games, art supplies, and spaghettios. She enjoyed jokes and teasing her family, and had a passion for feeding the birds and squirrels, which she knew drove her boys nuts. Carol and her travel mug full of coffee were always ready to hit the road, from business trips with friends, Don and Marge Harper, to spontaneous road trips with Al, to more recent weekend getaways each fall with friends, Marge, Lori, and Edna, who she also met with regularly for lunch over the years. She also was very skilled at needlework, handing out the best presents each Christmas, her beautiful embroidered flour sack dishtowels. Carol’s family will never forget coming over to find her simultaneously pedaling her exercise bike, doing a crossword puzzle, watching TV, and carrying on a conversation without missing a beat. She was a sweet, caring woman, full of laughter, who loved her home and family.

Carol is survived by her three sons, Mike (Deb) Leu, Randy (Maggie) Leu, and Rick (Julie) Leu, all of Waupun; her granddaughters, Caitlin, Carly, Laura, Kassie, Sarah, and Kayla; two step-grandchildren, April and Ben, a great-granddaughter, Rielynn, a step-great-grandson, Ryan; three sisters, Bea (Ozzie) Anderson, Ruby Huntoon, and Jeanette (Norm) Hudziak; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Creydt and Joanne Wiersma; and nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Al Leu; her parents; a sister, Lois Berto; a step-brother, Bill Shanklin; and brothers-in-law, Gordon Berto and Ed Huntoon.
