Bessie De Jager, 87, of Waupun, went to heaven on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Bessie was born on December 20, 1935, in Friesland, Wisconsin the daughter of Dewey & Martha Douma. She was married to Lambert De Jager on July 6, 1956 in East Friesland. She was a faithful member at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. Bessie worked for 13 years at the Waupun Christian Home as a certified nursing assistant. After retirement, she often sang and played piano for residents at the Waupun Christian Home and Randolph Health Services. Bessie enjoyed playing and entertaining with multiple musical instruments.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Lambert De Jager; three daughters: Vivian Josephson, Evonne (Mike) Ganz, and Vickie De Jager; two sons Tony (Theresa) De Jager and Robert (Linda) De Jager; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Andrew (Tessie) Douma, Harvey Douma; sister-in-law Shirley Douma; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law John (Arlene) De Jager, Etta Schregardus, Gertrude Mulder, and Dorothy De Jager; and many nieces and nephews.
Bessie was preceded in death by three brothers, Auke Douma, Clarence Douma and Gerrit Douma; three sisters, Alice Hoffman, Dorothy Schaalma, and Theresa Posthuma; and her parents.
Relatives and friends may attend visitation at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home, 210 Jefferson St, Waupun on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on November 3, 2023 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 410 S West St, Waupun. Visitation 10:00-11:00 am, service at 11:00 am. Burial will take place after the service at Alto Cemetery followed by lunch at Bethel Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bessie’s name to Bethel Christian Reformed Church or Alzheimer's Association.
