Barbara Rosenthal, age 73, a beloved art professor, devoted mother, sister and friend, passed away on September 11, 2024 at the home of her best friend, Darlene Opperman, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 8, 1951, in Waupun, Barb was a vibrant spirit whose passion for art touched the lives of many.
Barb graduated from Waupun High School before pursuing her education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where she earned her degree in Arts. Following her educational journey, Barb dedicated herself to academia as an art professor, inspiring countless students until her retirement in 2009. Her impact on her students was profound, and she remained a cherished figure among them throughout her life.
Art was more than a career for Barb; it was her life. She loved to draw and expressed herself creatively every chance she got. Her artistic talents were matched only by her kind and silly nature. Barb had a unique ability to bring smiles to others, even during her own challenging times. She also dedicated time to volunteering at Mercy Medical, further exemplifying her caring spirit and commitment to supporting her community.
Barb is survived by her beloved son, Travis Rosenthal; a brother, Dick (Kris) Kok; several nieces, including Chris (Dave) Levey, Merijean Whalen, Carrie (Matt) Zima, Amy (Ty) Bradley, Allison (Andy) Bruss, Jessi Kok; and a nephew, Nick (Kayla) Kok.
Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. Barb will be deeply missed, yet her legacy of joy, creativity, and kindness will continue to inspire future generations.
Per Barb's wishes, she would like all of her past students and facility to be present for the service.
