Ardelle "Fritz" Harmsen, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 2, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. Born on March 30, 1938, Fritz left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her.
Education was an important part of Fritz's life, and she proudly graduated from Waupun High School. Fritz married Gerald Harmsen on January 4, 1957, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. She held a deep love for her children: Kay Hull (Theresa Martin) and Kyle Harmsen. The joy of her life continued through her grandchildren, Justin Hull (Malena Lewis), Kayla (Colten) Van Hierden, and Nicole Harmsen; as well as her two great-grandchildren, Payton Rae and Lennon Lee. She will be deeply missed by her living family members, including her sister-in-law, Jane Spiering: brother-in-law, Ken Harmsen: and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fritz was a dedicated and hardworking individual who made significant contributions to her community through various entrepreneurial ventures. Alongside her husband Gerald, she co-owned the Boe and Bell Furniture Store for several years before moving across the street to partner with Mike Werner in establishing Werner Harmsen. In addition to this venture, she took great pride in launching Marsh Barn Antiques, where she found joy in selling beloved antiques. Fritz and Jerry also managed South Side Laundromat, further demonstrating their commitment to serving the local community. Her passion for learning and growth extended beyond academics into her coaching career, particularly as a bowling coach for the Bantam Juniors at Juds.
Among her interests, Fritz enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Winneconne, where many cherished memories were made. She had a special appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, whether it was sharing a 3 p.m. cocktail, playing cards, watching the Brewers, or relishing moments spent fishing. Her love for God and her family always remained at the forefront of her heart.
Fritz is reunited in spirit with her beloved husband Gerald; her grandson, John Robert Hull; two brothers: Jud (Thelma) Schlieve and Rodger Schlieve; as well as her sister, Darlene Pero.
As we celebrate the life of Ardelle "Fritz" Harmsen, we reflect on her strength, love, and the countless lives she touched. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, inspiring those left behind to embrace life with the same dedication and joy that she exemplified throughout her years.
A special thanks to all the hospice nurses for the amazing care given to Fritz.
