Alice Chase, 96, of Waupun, went with God to her heavenly home on February 9, 2024.
Alice was born in Koehler, WI on March 10, 1927, to John and Lois (Beaman) Lloyd. Her family moved to Berlin in 1928 and she graduated from the Berlin High School. Alice married Harry Lloyd Chase on July 2, 1944. In 1945 they moved to the Waupun area. They were blessed with the births of three children and renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Alice was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where she taught kindergarten and fifth grade Sunday School. She and Lloyd also had the opportunity to lead the Methodist Youth Group; they put together a cookbook with the profits going to help send the youth to church camp.
Alice was a member of the Rachel Circle and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Administrative Board for many years. She was a charter member of the Society of Cyrene (visiting shut-ins, etc.) and for many years wrote a monthly article for the church newsletter.
Alice and Lloyd loved dancing and belonged to the Waupun City Square Dance Club for many years. They also enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling, playing cards, and camping. But most of all they loved to be with their family and spending time with their grandchildren.
She worked for JCPenney Company in Waupun for 30 years, where she was the shoe department manager. In 1983 she was honored with a request to craft a Christmas ornament for one of the Christmas trees at the White House. She loved her job and made many lifelong friends.
After retiring, they spent their summers living at Lake Arrowhead Campground, where they had many friends. Alice enjoyed her part-time duties in the camp office/store and leading Saturday morning crafts for the children in the campground, while Lloyd kept busy providing maintenance services in the park.
For about 40 years, Alice created hand-knit or crocheted stuffed animals or dolls for each of the grandchildren for Christmas. It took some doing to make them without being caught by one of the grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Wayne) Ver Hage; her son, Gary (Suzanne) Chase; and daughter-in-law, Janice Chase. She is further survived by grandchildren: Paula (Kevin) Niedling, Deanna (Norm) Pratt, Stacey (Kevin) Beekman, Kevin (Michele) Hoople, Sheri Redman, Missy (Brett) Pribbenow, Mario Ver Hage, Jamie Riley, Jennifer Chase, Rebecca (Aaron) Rosenthal, Shana Gustafson, and Elizabeth Lockwood. She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Beverly Lenz; and brother, Harold (Barbara) Lloyd; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents; son, Dick Chase; grandson, Jeffrey Hoople; great-granddaughter, Rowan Lockwood; son-in-law, Kenneth Kraemer Jr.; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy (Gordon) Rice and Donna (Louie) Lloyd; sister, Audrey (Harold) Ottman; infant brother, Lyle Lloyd; and parents-in-law, Harry (Mildred) Chase.
