Alfred John Thurk, 88, of Waupun, was called to his eternal home on Saturday, January 5, 2013 by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his two beloved daughters.



Alfred was born June 9, 1924 in Fond du Lac the son of John and Pauline Wagner Thurk. Alfred attended St. Joseph’s grade school in Fond du Lac and then Fond du Lac High School until moving to Waupun at the age of 14. Alfred served his country with the US Army, serving in Japan from November of 1945 until May of 1946. On April 28, 1948 he married Carol Frankenstein and they farmed in the Waupun area and retired in 1987. Alfred then did carpentry work and other “fix-it” jobs for about 15 years. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 64 ½ years, Carol; a son, Richard (Sherry) Thurk of Waupun; two sons-in-law, Robert (Debbie) Bruni of Fond du Lac and Dennis (Sarah) Rechek of Horicon; nine grandchildren, Paul and Dan Bruni of Fond du Lac, Tom (Laura) Rechek of Fox Lake, Tiffany (Ryan) Klavekoske of Beaver Dam, Tim (Elaine) Rechek of Waupun, Carrie Ordonez of Waupun, Christopher (Elizabeth) Thurk of Fox Lake, Jeremy (Kristi) Thurk of Waupun, Joshua (Crystal) Thurk of Waupun; two step-grandchildren, Jason Kempfer of Waupun, and Kim (Ben) Casey of Waupun; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Lorraine) Frankenstein of Beaver Dam and Albert (Phyllis) Frankenstein of Mukwonago; two sisters-in-law, Barb Frankenstein of Beaver Dam, and Linda Thurk of Waupun; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Barbara and Sharon; a sister, Dorothy (Jake) Van Buren; a brother, Marvin Thurk; a brother-in-law, Herbert Frankenstein; a sister-in-law, Alice (Frank) Engebretson; and a step-brother-in-law, Alvin Steffen.


Visitation:
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Services:
Funeral services for Alfred Thurk will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Roger Knowlton officiating.

Burial:
Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton where The American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military rites.
