Alan Gavanda, 68, of Waupun, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the Christian Home in Waupun.
Alan was born on July 11, 1956 in Milwaukee, WI. Alan's journey through life was filled with notable experiences that shaped him into the remarkable individual he was.
After bravely serving in the U.S. Marines for 2 years, Alan transitioned into civilian life and settled in Waupun, WI. He became the proud owner-operator of the Heidelberg where he devoted himself to creating a welcoming environment for all who walked through its doors. His dedication and hard work made the Heidelberg a cherished establishment within the community for several years.
Alan's passion for cars led him to a career in sales at various dealerships where his charisma and expertise shone brightly. He enjoyed connecting with customers and helping them find their perfect vehicle until his well-deserved retirement in 2012. Alan's commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction left a lasting impact on all those he interacted with.
In his personal life, Alan was known for his vibrant personality and love for Star Trek. His infectious energy made him the life of the party wherever he went, and he had a knack for bringing joy to those around him. An exceptional grill master known for cooking the best chicken, Alan also found delight in snowmobiling and attending NHRA races.
Alan is survived by his devoted life partner of 40 years, Kim McDowell. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and cherished memories. He is also survived by his step-daughters: Tierney Cornelius and Trista Gallenbeck, as well as his two step-grandchildren: Marcus and Braeson Cornelius. Additionally, Alan leaves behind a legacy that will continue to grow with an upcoming arrival - his future step-grandchild, Bryxton McDowell.
Among those who mourn Alan's passing are his brother, Scott Michael Gavanda; nieces: Candice Burkholtz, Lynn Hagen, Tiffany Craford, and Liz Sercerst; brother-in-law, Michael Smith; sister-in-law, Gwen McDowell; as well as nephews: Dean (Becky) Henne and Darrell Henne. The impact of Alan's presence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
In remembrance of Alan's life, we honor his deceased family members: his parents; two sisters: Carol Smith and Sharon Blanchette; a step-daughter, Brea McDowell; a son-in-law, Chris Gallenbeck; mother and father-in-law, Donald and Donna McDowell; and a brother-in-law, Greg McDowell. Their memories will forever be held close.
Alan Gavanda will be remembered for his joyful spirit, unwavering kindness, and zest for life. His legacy will continue to inspire many as they reflect on the profound impact he had on their lives. May he rest in peace knowing that he touched the hearts of so many during his time with us.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Werner-Harmsen Event Center from 2-5 p.m.
