Agnes Schmidt, 93, of Waupun, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.




Agnes was born September 11, 1920 in Green Lake County, the oldest daughter of John and Clara Hoffman Posthuma. She attended Randolph area schools where she received her elementary education. During World War II, Agnes worked at National Rivet in Waupun. On May 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Marvin E. Schmidt in Randolph. Together they farmed and raised six children on the Schmidt homestead where she resided for 55 years. Agnes was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam where she was involved with Peace Circle. In 2001, vision challenges brought her to an apartment in Waupun where she truly “walked by faith and not by sight.”

Agnes is survived by six children: Karen (Marvin) Mielke of rural Brandon, Marvin “Butch” (Kathy) Schmidt Jr. of Juneau, Susan (Bob) Schmeichel of Neenah, Rita (Lowell) Meidam of Fond du Lac, Lorna (Carl) Pluim of rural Waupun, and Linda (Marty) Huizenga Jr. of rural Brandon; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Julie (Craig) Verheyen-Bryce and Kyra, Jackie (Kendall) Clark-Connor, Jill (Marc) Siebenbrodt-Samantha, Jack, and Kate, Jennifer (John) O’Halloran-Riley, Molly, Claire, and Johnny, Rob (Deb) VandeZande-Ryan and Austin, Heidi (Doug) Soodsma-Levi and Lydia, Mark (Kim) VandeZande-Kayla, Emily, and Amber, April (Steve) Steffen-Ella and Andrew, Jayme (Chad) Shea-Owen, Macey and Nolan, Brian (Shana) Meidam-Grant, Alayna and Landon, Bruce Pluim-Riley and Brianna, Clint Pluim-Kylie and Colton, Amy (Mike) Runte-Gage and Cole, Abby (Matt) Pluim-Logan, Kendyl, Mackenzie, and Ryanne; Sarah VandeZande, and Ava Lou VandeZande; three sisters: Jeanette Tjepkema of Waupun, Sylvia (Clinton) Smith of Waupun, and Claraine (Ronald) Buteyn of Waupun; two brothers: Clarence (Alice) Posthuma of rural Brandon and Jim (Betty) Posthuma of Waupun; sisters-in-law: Theresa Posthuma of Randolph and Jane Posthuma of rural Randolph; and brothers-in-law: Orlin Fietz of Waupun and Raymond Schuster of Kansas City, MO.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Schmidt Sr. on July 5, 1989; a sister, Grace Fietz; four brothers: Eli, Carl, Alvin, and Jacob Posthuma; her sisters-in-law: Betty Posthuma, Winnie Posthuma, and Marion Schuster; brother-in-law, Jerry Tjepkema; great-granddaughter, Briana Meidam; and great-grandson, Rob Vande Zande Jr.





Visitation:


Friends and relatives of Agnes Schmidt may call on the family on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.



Services:


Funeral services for Agnes Schmidt will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church 400 Hillcrest Dr. Beaver Dam with Rev. Mark Wenzel officiating.



Burial:


Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton.
