Andrew Westra, Jr., 64, of Waupun, formerly of Randolph, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his home.
Andy was born October 27, 1947 in Randolph the son of Andrew and Effie Fisher Westra. On November 4, 1966 he married Mary Vander Galien. Andy joined the US Air Force, serving in Vietnam for one year. After serving in the Armed Forces, Andy was a hog farmer, a correctional officer for the State of Wisconsin as well as a crop insurance adjuster. Andy enjoyed watching Little League games and watching his grandchildren’s games. He was a Badgers, Packers and Brewers fan. He loved to bomb around in his ’58 Chevy Apache truck with Mary. Andy was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. He was described as “the man with big hands to help others, the broad shoulders for others to stand on to reach their goals, and a heart that was full of compassion and love for God’s people.”
Andy is survived by his wife, Mary Westra of Waupun; his children, Eric Westra of Waupun, Paul (Tanya) Westra of Fond du Lac, and Kristen Sauer of Waupun; grandchildren, Rueben, Jacob, Savanna, Mahri, Elizabeth, Silas, Ezekiel , and Riley Westra, and Clay Sauer; two sisters, Marilyn (John) Smits, and Evelyn (Howard) Minnema; three brothers, Peter (Doris) Westra, Syros (Janice) Westra, and Tony Westra; and many nieces and nephews.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation:
Friends and relatives of Andy Westra may call on the family on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Services:
Funeral services for Andrew Westra will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun (due to the construction at Bethel Christian Reformed Church) with Rev. Jeff Brower officiating.
Burial:
Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun where American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military rites.
